Release Notes

Please Note a "1.00b" was posted in the small hours of the morning on Jan 31st. Prior to this there was an issue which prevented New-VM working on PowerShell 1.0. (2.0 was OK). The same issue applied to Add-VMKvp and Remove-VMKVP, and an unresolved bug was also found in Remove-VMKVP. Finally the Get-VMSummary which appeared in the issues was not incorpated into 1,00 as planned, and this was corrected in 1.00b

This release has been longer in preparation than I planned.

Some basic things
1. The script needs to be loaded with . <path> will warn you if you do not included the leading dot and if you do not appear to have sufficient rights. These have been the two most common questions.
2. There is now an XML formatting file so that functions can return raw objects but have them nicely formatted. You can change the XML file if need be.
3. There is documentation !
4. Some very simple testing has been done against Server-2008 R2 - nothing seems to have broken.

The number of changes from the previous build is quite large, but I home very few things will break. I have tried to support more ways of calling functions - including many more supporting the Piping of input, more consistent naming, and using the formatting file I have removed the LIST- functions which went with many of the GET- Functions.

Reviews for this release

It really simplifies Hyper-V scripting.

Within minutes I was able to write a full scale script to create a VM and test an application - something that would have otherwise taken hours with WMI. The documentation is excellent and the commands work like a charm, thanks for your time in creating this library, a true lifesaver.

Just what the doctor ordered. SCVMM provides PowerShell scripts for managing Hyper-V but for those of us without SCVMM, these cmdlets are a godsend. Thanks James.

I downloaded the xml files, however, could not figure out how to install Powershell on Hyper-V, since the files within Hyperv.zip consist of: hyperv.format.ps1xml hyperv.ps1 How do I compile this installation?

Excellent piece of software indeed, an answer to pretty much all my problems in hyper-v -management.

In one day I was able to write a script for offline backups of dynamic disk. You set a goal and it works well. The API hide the WMI issues well.

Great toolkit! No issues with upgrading from previous version. But, there are some issues with KVP, otherwise a 5 star.

Spectacularly useful tools. Did I mention they are also free-as-in-beer? Thank you James!
